In 2000 Millennium Summit 189 heads of government decided to unite their efforts for changing the existing situation in the world. The summit resulted in the Millennium Declaration, which set up 8 main directions for further work – 8 main critical human issues - 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The 8 Millennium Development Goals ranging from eradicating extreme poverty to combating HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education make a global action plan aproved by all countries and world's leading development institutions. Getting involved they also accept a concrete deadline of the campaign - year 2015.

“Do you think they will manage?” Many people around the world asked this question and came to the conclusion – may be they will not manage, but all together we'll definitely make it! That's why millions of people have already united and move towards achievement the MDGs.

What makes the Millennium Campaign DIFFERENT?

- Unlike previous campaigns, MDG touches upon all spheres of our life and, conformably, it gives us an opportunity to build our ways to the goals from absolutely different directions. This is how it involves more and more people in search of solutions, cooperation for changing the world to a better one! The 8th Millennium Development Goal claims: ”Develop a global partnership for development”, what implies as multicultural collaboration, so and mutual aid between rich and poor countries. And it works!

- Millennium campaign is not a project for 100 or 300 years…No, just till year 2015! So we've got not so much time! On the one hand, it stimulates incredible activity of governments, developing their policy towards the goals achievement; on the other hand – it shows us clearly that we've been in the shadows for a long time, saying that these issues are too global and even if their realization is real, “personally I don't play any role in it anyway!” No, not this time.

- It is the first campaign, which means reality in all meanings, as it is not just the words, but real actions! Millions of real projects have been carried out already and there is still an incredible number of opportunities! Learn more about them!

MDGs campaign has a very precise structure and everyone plays its own role. It is extremely important when it comes to such global movements. Look how everybody gets his place and a unique role in this pyramid!

Networks of international organizations provide with resources and opportunities people with particular projects related to MDGs.

Governments agreed to create the conditions and opportunities for helping in achieving the goals and do their best to in communicating with society within the Millennium Campaign.

Citizens, public organizations mobilize their forces, realize concrete projects.

Young people and YOU personally have a possibility to contribute. To achieve the goals we need everybody – politicians, young people, religious activists, NGO-representatives, environment protectors, human rights protectors …simply EVERYBODY. Because imagine, we can become the first generation that can end poverty!

Why particularly young people?
At least because a half of the worlds population are young people under 25! So do you think it is possible to change this world by 2015 without our participation?

“The Millennium Campaign is one more attempt to fight the informational and ideological vacuum, purpose and values crisis, which faces young generation of modern Belarus. And one of the most positive conclusion, made during the workshop in Glubokoe, was that everything depends on us. No, not on abstract us, but on me and you, Masha and Fedya, each of whom has own life and problems. And it is already an indicator, that we are finally starting to feel our responsibility for our life and for what it is like. It means, we will be ready to change it…” – Ekaterina Tomkovich, gran-pri of “Who and why needs the Millenium Development Goals in Belarus?” Contest (YIEC NEWLINE).

- Because billion of people in the world are trying to survive for less than one dollar a day;

- Because 28000 children die every day of diseases, caused by poverty;

- Because 115 million of children does not have a possibility to attend school - 56% of from this amount are girls and 96% from developing countries;

- Because every 10 th child in 48 countries has malaria;

- Because 500000 women die every year of the complications during child-birth;

- Because 4.8 millions of people got HIV in year 2003, which is 13000 a day!

- Because 1.2 billions of people doesn't have access to pure water, 2.4 billions haven't got proper sanitation facilities.

Do you need more reasons ? Or are we going to wait for miracles to come?
