General Information
“OUR-Belarus” Internet-Game is an opportunity for all its participants (pupils, students, teachers, and any young Internet-user) to get an absolute and many-sided overview of Belarus as a country valuable either in historical or cultural regard not only for itself, but in the context of European and world cultures and civilizations.
“OUR-Belarus” Internet-Game is organized and held by iEARN-Belarus (International Education and Resource Network in Belarus,
(http://iearn-belarus.iatp.by) with the support of Belarusian Alumni Club of the Federation of Internet Education (www.fio.by), “World We Live In” National Internet-Project (http://wwli.iatp.by) and Internet Access and Training Program – IATP under the Project “Internet-2” of the UNO Program .
The author of the idea and technology of carrying out “OUR-Belarus” Internet Game is Youth Educational Club “New Line” (http://newline.iatp.by). The conception of the game is based on the introduction of Belarus as one of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe the frontier of Eastern and Western Cultures) and of the Belarusians – a nation which has its rich European tradition.
“OUR-Belarus” National Internet-Game was held in March, 2004 for the first time in the context of training and carrying out Spring Debating Camp of the participants of the project “World We Live In” (http://springcamp.iatp.by) . All the materials of the spring game are arranged on the site of iEARN-Belarus
(http://iearn-belarus.iatp.by/our%20belarus/ourbelarusindex.htm).
The concept and technology of “OUR-Belarus” Internet Game was worked out on the basis of using the idea and technology of carrying out the on-line game about countries “To Join Nations” of “It's Our Time” project
(http://www.edu.yar.ru/russian/projects/time-2000/default.html). “It's Our Time” – is an annual global project for secondary schools, the initiator of which is considered to be ASPnet (UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network).
Main Tasks of the Game:
I. To arouse pupils' desire for getting to know more about their country and themselves, introducing Belarus to themselves as well as to others. (That's why holding of the Internet-Game is organized in three languages – Belarusian, Russian, English).
II. To favour to young people's awareness about the history and culture of Belarus in the context of general history of Europe and other world cultures by means of intercultural and information exchange.
III. To acquaint those who are interested with the information about Belarus in the Internet and to set up possibilities for their learning the resources that introduce Belarus as a part of Europe in Europe itself.
IV. To involve participants of the game into the work of iEARN-Belarus for their further interaction and cooperation.
