Course Description:

The problems of today’s world are more complex than ever. They are highly interconnected and interdependent. We face climate change, vast exploitation of natural resources, population growth, growing gap between rich and poor, social inequity, among many others. To be able to respond to these challenges future leaders need a new innovative and interdisciplinary approach.

This short course aims to engage participants to identify their role as leaders for a more sustainable future and to help them learn what global common values and ethics are. The aim is that after the course the participants will be more aware about the principles for sustainability and they will comprehend how those can be used as a tool on an individual and organizational level. This course drives for positive change in participants’ everyday lives and creates a sense of global responsibility.

The ultimate goal is to further develop the capabilities necessary to conduct Earth Charter inspired action projects in the participants’ own communities and link the participants with the wider youth community working towards a more sustainable future.

This course is delivered mainly through our WizIq online platform, but a number of other online technologies available for use by the general public (and for free) will be utilized as well.

About Partners

Youth Action for Change (YAC) is an innovative international youth run non-profit organization which equips young people with knowledge and skills that enable them to directly get involved in improving their communities and livelihoods.

YAC employs a ‘leveraged impact’ model. We believe that young people have enormous untapped potential and can be very effective in instigating positive change in their communities. Our work involves training and supporting young people so that they are empowered to then instigate positive community development projects and train their peers on vital development issues.

The Earth Charter is a declaration of fundamental ethical principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful global society in the 21st century. It seeks to inspire in all people a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well-being of the whole human family, the greater community of life, and future generations. It is a product of a decade-long, worldwide, cross cultural dialogue on common goals and shared values.

“The Earth Charter Initiative is a diverse, global network of people, organizations, and institutions that participate in promoting and implementing the values and principles of the Earth Charter.”
