CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation

Restoring Trust: Global Action for Transparency

In the aftermath of the financial crisis the challenges threatening the rights and livelihood of populations across the world have increased while hope for greater social justice has faded. Efforts to reduce poverty and to deliver on promises for sustainable development, human security, curbing illicit trade and climate control have not yet resulted in positive change. Around the world, headlines showcase the continued impunity and the rise in organised crime and illicit financial flows. When trust in governance is questioned and confidence in institutions is hollow, apathy and insecurity flourish, creating an environment ripe for corruption.

I will be participating at the next International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) from 10-13 November in Bangkok Thailand to emphasize the essential role civil society plays in combating these social challenges. The IACC is the premier world forum that brings together heads of state, civil society, the private sector and more to tackle the increasingly sophisticated challenges posed by corruption. The IACC plenary sessions will involve the audience in a critical and proactive discussion about today's global challenges. World leaders and experts will join the plenary panel to discuss and propose solutions to ensure a sustainable future for all.

Corruption affects us all. It is important to tell the people in power what really matters when it comes to fighting corruption.

We want our Members' voices to be heard when decision-makers take the stage at the IACC plenary panels and discuss challenges at this forum for fighting corruption in Bangkok.

How you can add your voice and speak to the leaders at the conference

Your comments should be related any of the five selected global challenges of the IACC:

(c) Climate governance: ensuring a collective commitment
(d) Strengthening global action for an accountable corporate world
(e) Restoring trust: global action for transparency

Your video can be in English, French, Spanish or Thai and uploaded as .mov, .avi, .wmv, .mpg and .mpeg files The maximum video file size is 6MB. For further information see: http://14iacc.org/press-and-social-media/youth-challenge/
